Just an update on this tank.
I'm in the process of setting up a 180 litre and will use this 60 litre as the sump, transferring the occupants over to the tank once it's been running a while.

Xenia and Green Star Polyps have literally sprinted towards each other in the last week after I raised my alkalinity.

Very nice.

Two Oscars in the 75 gallon tank.
55 gallon planted tank with angelfish, guppies, BN plecos, betta's and ADF's.
55 gallon flat back hex with three goldfish.

Looks great!!

Love the clowns. How is the female is she a bully?

Your not kidding about the Xenia... It looks great!!! :fro: I wish you lived closer I'd take a frag :)

Your nassarius snails look great. And you have some great corralling growing :fro:

What are you using for food?

When you move tanks will you be taking the sand bed?

Thanks

Callen, she lets him know who's boss but generally she's OK with him and they spend most of their time together.
As for food, I have new life spectrum and the have that as one meal a day and frozen for the other meal, with a mix of brine shrimp quartet, finely chopped prawn and mussel.
I tried a couple of peas in the tank a while back and found the hermit crab and a few other creatures went mad for them, recently caught the clowns nibbling them as the fell to the bottom.

I did intend to take the sand too, I intend to have the tank running for a while with the new rock in it and then run them together mixing the water slowly as though doing an acclimatisation. Then once everything has equalised transfer everything and empty the 60 litre to allow me to put baffles in place to form the sump.

I was considering taking the main Xenia covered rock and putting it in place in the sump to get first dibs on any NO3 being produced.

Great plan!

One thing I learned when moving sand. It's important to no mix it up to much. How deep would you say it is?

Glad she is not to bossy. Our first set of clowns boy was she mean...always felt sorry for the male. This set we have know is similar to what your are like.

Sand is probably just deeper than an inch, I was looking at removing some of it into the other tank by syphoning off during water changes.

Even with that little amount you want to keep it in the same layer as much as you can so not to release toxins. The best way to do it is shovel it up as best as you can and lay in the new tank without disturbing it to much.
