Yet Another Tank

Postby wesbailey » Fri Oct 29, 2010 8:57 am

Hey guys,

I know that I already have 4 tanks running, but I came across a deal on craigslist. I am picking up a 55 gallon saltwater tank complete with stand, sump, tons of live rock, live sand, a percula clown, reef octopus skimmer, powerheads, etc. It is only $100. I know that it is unbelievable. I got in touch with the guy and he said that he was selling it so cheap because he is always out of town and that he has no time to take care of it. He said that he was leaving again soon so he needed it gone. I am picking it up after work today and will have pics asap. Just thought that I would share.

Hey guys,

I set-up the tank on Saturday. It was a steal! I got a 55 gallon drilled tank. It came with the stand, tank, crushed coral, about 75-80lbs of live rock, a sump, pump, compact flourscent light fixture, percula clown, reef octopus sump skimmer, and a heater. I will have pictures of it on my lunch break.

Alright everyone, here are some pictures of the deal that I got. I am currently curing the live rock in the tank (the clown is no longer in the tank), then I plan on transfering all of it to my 75 gallon tank. I do not think that I am ready for the upkeep on another saltwater tank, so I will be using the new tank and sump for a freshwater tank. When I got the tank, it had a bad algae over growth from poor maintnance. Alot of the life on the rock had died off, but I'm in the process of fixing that.

That's cool. So any idea what is going in it when it goes to freshwater?

JohnL, thats a good question. Im really not sure. I will have great filtration with the sump. I would like to stay with Central or South American cichlids. My downfall is that it is only a 55 gallon tank and SA/CA cichlids get really big. I hate to waste all that filtration and tank on one fish and I'm not a big fan of dwarf cichlids. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not all of them.Just as many (if not more) that never go over 6".
I hate to waste all that filtration and tank on one fish and I'm not a big fan of dwarf cichlids.

Then don't,Try a "peaceful" (well, peaceful as cichlids get) community tank containing Festivum,Keyhole, and smaller Geos if wanting all SA...if don't care use Rainbow in place of Geos.
Can always do a colony of smaller Geo species (some stay around 5" max).
Can always try smaller Pike cichlids (55g gives room for two pair of regani with lots of dithers.

Been giving real thought to what I'll do with my 55's in the future. One going to the above "community" list, another to Geophagus sp. "Rio Tapajos Redhead" colony, and other to Paratilapia polleni (single fish) once present fish move up.
Just think about it.

Sevs and or festivum would be nice with some dithers to round it out.
