A radio interview with Dr. Matt Wittenrich.

It's long interview but Matt has come a long way with the Mandarin. I go way back with Matt and so excited he is doing so well with the Mandarins.

Many of you may remember he has my male Mandarin and he had great succses with him. Here is a picture of them just a few weeks old at MACNA a few years ago.

Those look like some interesting fish.

What type of water do they thrive in?

a beautiful fish. From what i have read they can be hard to keep and even harder to breed. I read a few things from him. Very good stuff!

Well that is what the interview is all about. He has breed them with great success and has been able to get them to eat prepared foods. We will now see tank raised Mandarins in the LFS. Wild caught about cost about $25.00 and tank raised will be around $40 -50.00. This is huge for the hobby. The hard part about keeping wild caught Mandarin's was getting them to eat prepared foods.

Yeah, my mother-in-law was wanting to setup a tank and she thought they were cool, I laughed and said she couldn't handle them due to their horrible eating habits. I have read a lot on them about how they are such horrible eaters when in the aquarium setting.

Very cool callen :fro:

Absolutely...about 2 years ago tank raise mandarins were really a dream. But thanks to Matt and figuring out how to keep the babies alive it is now a reality. So very excited for Matt. Oh by the way it's Dr. Matt Wittenrich now :fruit:
