I just do my water changes on schedule. I don't use any type of resins or filtration additives,just regular old bio-media and pads.
If there is no odd problems with your tap/well water then there's no need for them. Water changes take care of balancing pH,eliminating nitrates and metabolic wastes,replenishing trace minerals,and diluting concentrated compounds from evaporation and top offs. What more do you need ?
