interest about a fish: parachromis managuensis

If it's not an Oscar or Discus (as they have their own forums), but a cichlid from Texas, Central or South America... This is the place to be! Terrors and Devils and Jacks oh my!

interest about a fish: parachromis managuensis

Postby Ferdinand974 » Tue Jan 10, 2012 10:22 am

Hello my name is Ferdinand Jagot, I'm new on your web site.I’m a French student from Reunion Island near to south Africa. I do researches on a fish called Parachromis Managuensis or sometimes Jaguar Guapote because it’s invading the region where I live and I try to get the most information as I can about it.I wanted to know if you could help me. I would really enjoy to have any information you could have about this fish and it would help me a lot! Of course if you know someone I could take contact with, it’s also very helpful.
Thank you very much.

Welcome!
Really couldn't tell you more than a good internet search using the scientific name would.Since you seem to be researching them as an invasive species it would be best to check them as that.
My experience with Parachromis genus is limited to only two species,of which managuensis isn't one of them, but aquarium care (if that's what you are interested in) is similar...only requiring larger tanks and much more stringent choices of tankmates. The males potential 24" and females 16" says don't try them in anything less than a 240g as a pair or 180g for male, and tank mates would be "iffy" (these fish have an explosive aggression when they want).
Just think about it.

No that's real researches I'm doing on this fish and I've of course already visited all the sites I could on google: I'm in contact with specialists from America, Philippine, Costa Rica... I just thought that there was maybe persons here that made a thesis on this fish or only researches... that's why I asked: I already tried this fish in a aquarium and it was horrible: he just eats more than me :P
Thank you for answering.

Why I suggested the scientific name search."Sites" are based on experiences and relay of information (accurate and otherwise),whereas a scientific name search will take you to pure research articles and schlolarly journals that have information beyond what the average hobbyist needs (or wants) to know.Play with your keywords in search and you'll find a lot more information...and don't hesitate to look at Result 2000 of 2,000,000 if that's what it takes to find the info you want.
Just think about it.
