Fertile Oscar Eggs

Postby OinKY » Fri Sep 12, 2008 10:51 pm

Wanted to get fertile Oscar eggs on a background so the color would show fairly well....so used an inverted white dinner plate.

Here's Poppa Ringo with the spawn...

....a little closer on the eggs

...and last, but not least,Momma CaseyLynch out patrolling territory while Pop does guard duty

In the time it took me to post this, they've switched duties...equal rights lives :fro:
...and don't ask me about the four pieces of gravel they carefully placed among the eggs.Trying to hide them maybe ;D

Help yourself Callen...why I spawned them on a white background instead of slate.
This is the second spawn in the last 10-12 days...Melissa triggered the other with a big water change while I was away,so didn't get a chance to get any pics on that one.
Went heavy on the crickets and red worms to condition them and timed the water change out so they would spawn while I was in this time.
Thanks Scarteam :fro:

Will do :fro: ...probably limit the pics because I use flash, but I'll do what I can.
Ate the last spawn...Ringo's first.CaseyLynch was a proven breeder when I got her,so she seems to be "teaching" him parenting skills.
If things look bad,I'll probably "tank-ubate" this spawn.
....and thank you,cat_n_mouse :fro:

So if they're that creamy beige colour, they're fertilized and if they're white they won't hatch?

Yep...anywhere from an amber to a sandy brown/tan is fertile, white is infertile.
Important to have a color change of some kind...no change from when they are first layed indicates no fertilization has taken place.

Eggs haven't "disappeared" this time and have increased in size...both good signs.

Thanks Gerry :fro:
Think the white plate messes with their minds...they're still placing gravel around the eggs.Think they think it disguises them.
