Thanks for the info, water quality looks good. How often does he quiver?

Is all the equipment in the tank working well? Any stray voltage? If you touch the water do you get any shocks? You may want to check the tank with a voltage meter.

Hi
I noticed you said your tank was 27 degrees! Is that true? It should be about 78-80 degrees. Sounds like the water might be too cold?
I would also do 80percent water change every week. :)

I forgot to ask how big he/she is? Many times when they quiver it could be they are ready to mate. Is your O rubbing the decor or any other odd behavior?

Check the whole tank out and do a water change just to be sure. Be sure your PH is stable also.

Amy that would be 27c and that = 80.6 F :)

Is the quivering more like a vertical tail shaking? If it is that's normal for an O it can be a sing of mating or aggression. Moving gravel around is also normal for a large cichlid. Some rubbing once in a while is normal but if it's constant it can be a sign of external parasites or ick. You can check the tank for stray current with a multi meter.

If the color is good, appetite is unchanged, and there is no other odd behavior like errattic dashing, then it sounds like a perfectly normal behavior that occurs around puberty and on into adulthood.Males are a little worse about it,but don't use it as an indicator of sex.

Ringo was a "drama queen" when doing it and was particularly good at it when :poed:

Still sounds like puberty related behavior, but wouldn't hurt to do the stray voltage test JohnL suggested.
Give the O a look over in the anal area looking at anus and vent sizing/spacing.If they look like oo fairly close together then male,if oO with a bit of spacing then female.Hard to tell looking through the side of a tank but it avoids all the drama involved in netting.
A little searching will find a good piic of what to look for...I'd link you but this netbook is worthless at that.

it just looks so weird thu.

he has been a bit off his food for a bit when he eats his pellets, normally he is really agile, now he is like "oh its food" mmmmmmmmmmmmm "mabee ill eat it"

and isnt very enthusiastic about it..

its a small head twitch like he has a headache n trying to shake it off, he does it while he swims around the tank ill try and get a video
