The best night time light is no light.
It allows the fish to go into their 'sleep mode' which helps keep them healthy.

If you're talking about a 'black light' that gives off the purple glow and makes things fluoress, then no. I wouldn't use one of those. If you want a light to see your fish while they sleep use a red/purple globe specifically for night lighting. I have a purple heat night lamp for my snake and can see him at night just fine with that.

Do the fish get a regular day/night cycle? If you turn the lights off when you sleep you can just use a regular white globe, the fish won't care so long as they get some darkness too. It doesn't have to be an exactly 12/12 cycle.

A black light is not a good idea. The light spectrum that it puts out can cause blindness, both to your fish and to you.

I'm not a fan of Wardley fish foods. They have a lot of fillers in them, which will equate to more poop, and therefore more mess.

Fish Meal, Wheat Flour, Soy Flour, Soy Protein Concentrate, Corn Gluten Meal, Wheat Germ Meal, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Fish Oil, Salt, Brewers Dried Yeast, Spirulina, Betaine, Shrimp Meal, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate, Tagetes Extract, Choline Chloride, Vitamin A Acetate, Canthaxanthin, D-Alpha Tocopherol Acetate, Cholecalciferol, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Menadione Dimethylpyrimidinol Bisulfite, Ethoxyquin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Niacin, Folic Acid, Riboflavin, Cyanocobalamin, DL-Methionine, Manganous Oxide, Zinc Oxide, Ferrous Carbonate, Copper Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Calcium Iodate, Calcium Carbonate, Cobalt Carbonate, Sodium Selenite.

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude protein (min) 40%
Crude fat (min) 5%
Crude fiber (max) 4%
Moisture (max) 9%
Ascorbic Acid (Min) 1400 mg/kg

By looking at the list I'd say no. Many of the items have been known to cause fish to get impacted like wheat flour and corn gluten meal. They have also added salt that can cause kidney failure overtime. Then with Ethoxyquin added to the mix not so good. Oinky you want to touch on that?

Hi
A good food for them in pellets would be Omega One.. Comes in a yellow and purple bottle. I find it at Pet Supplies Plus for 5.49 a bottle. It's the only petstore I can find the large pellets besides online.
My oscars love this one. ;)

amyabe2001 I am able to get Hikari Cichlid Gold in the large pellet size at Pet co. Petsmert doesn't have much of a selection for cichlids here in Sioux Falls though.

and the LFS: Mini Critter is expensive as they do not have any other competition. Their quality has gone down hill since Safari Land closed up.

On the food ingredients...
Too many unnecessary fillers and questionable items. The list reads more like a Herp diet with all the minerals involved.
Ethoxyquin is something that should be avoided if at all possible. It has a history in the "large pet" food sector of alledgedly causing birth defects and various tumors/cancers....and coincidentally :-\ the rise in renal tumors and "undiagnosable" internal defects in ornamental fish occurred roughly a couple of years after its addition to the ingredient list there.Personal choice if you wish to use it,but research some of the ligitimate medical papers posted on-line.
Its only purpose is to keep animal fats from going rancid...so if there's enough fats in a food to worry about going rancid then you probable don't want to feed that food.
On black light... it's a no-no due to the UV radiation involved.Extended exposure will do a little more than just blind you or the fish.

Hi
Yeah, I don't go to "The Not-so-Smart Pet Store" to buy the food. They quit carrying many brands so I don't like their selection.. I go to Pet Supplies Plus or order Omega One online..
Pet Supplies Plus carrys more of a variety of fish food.. ;)

If you can't get a decent pellet food at your lcoal store, why not make your own food? It's not hard and that way you can be absolutely sure you know exactly what's in it. I have a similar problem, Most of the really good quality foods are not imported into NZ as they'd be cost-prohibative for most owners to purchase by the time the lfs took its' 150% profit ::) I make almost all my own foods for my cichlids and predators.
