I have a baby oscar that was eating and swimming around just fine 3 days ago.It hasn't eaten in 3 days and has a long white thing hanging out of it's butt.Does anyone know what's going on with it?

Sounds like a possible parasite.
Can you give use more info on the tank?
Size
Temp
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
How long has it been cycled
Filtration
Tank mates?

Agree.Possibly an internal parasite.
Is the "long white thing hanging out of it's butt" visible enough to make a determination on whether it's a worm or just long, stringy, feces ? Does the stomach look bulged or sunken in ?
Just think about it.

no need to worry about that problem anymore.I traded in the little baby oscars and got my O's back.

Yes I did. They had my O's in a tank with 6 other big fish. They were also giving them feeders to eat.

Unfortunately what happens most times with "trade-ins" at lfs.Not really condemning them,or defending them, but they house and feed them in the most convenient (economical) way to make a profit.
My ethical question to you.Did you happen to mention you were giving them a possible parasite problem ?
Just think about it.

keep an eye on your O's as they may have picked up the same problem as the little fella you took back.
Probably from the feeders

I told the kids working in the fish department. They said that they would take care of it.

My O's finally lip locked after 18 months of having them and 6 unfertilized egg lays.I guess going into a tank with other fish woke them up.Maybe I need to add another fish in my tank to get the {male} oscar pumped up.

Really......I would just leave them alone for a while. They've now gone through the stress of being traded in, living at lfs in less than ideal conditions, and now retrieved and back home. Let them get settled back in without more curveballs being thrown at them.....
Any day is a good day for watching the fish swim........

The roles have changed since they've been back. The female is less timid than before. She stands up to the {male} instead of letting him push her around like before.I put food in the tank 2 hours after they came home and the female ate right away. They went right to the slate and started to clean it.She's off her egg laying schedule because of the move. She would've laid her 7th batch by this weekend. This time I'm going to let whatever goes on happen.I'll leave them alone.

I caught them lip locking a couple more times. My wife woke me up from a nap because the O's made a big splash. Then when she looked over she said that they were lip locked. The female is dropping her tube already.I say by Wednesday there will be eggs. It's good to see that the female is a little tougher towards the {male} now.She will go right over to him to give him a nudge with her gills flared out. That trip to the pet store woke them up I guess.Maybe I need to put another fish in the tank to keep them like this.
