decoration problem

Postby MrIan1077 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 3:14 pm

I put a 12inch terracotta flower pot in the tank for my O's.It's been in there for 3 days and they won't go in it.I even put some slate in front of it hoping that they would come over and go in it.I was even thinking about using some Krylon Fusion black spray paint to make it look like a cave.I really don't know what's going on with my O's.Does anybody know how to get them in it?

O's, unlike some other cichlids, such as Jack Dempsey's, don't use caves or hide outs. So chances of them getting in it are slim to none. They may try to swim through it (if you broke out the bottom) or move it, which is more possible, but it's very unlikely they will use it to hide in.

that explains why they are staying at the other side of the tank.

Yep. Driftwood tangle would be better.
Adult Os,by nature, won't put themselves in a position where there's no escape. Knock the bottom out like JohnL suggested, they'll go in...once they get used to it being there. Drama Queens.
Just think about it.
