bigtanksmallbrain wrote:so you have 2 xp3s and the sump? how do you like the rena? and have you ever tried the heater that hooks up to the tubing? sorry for the barrage of questions I like to take my filtration serious and I need to get something soon. the tank came with 2 AC110s but im not a huge fan of HOB's. Im gonna keep them for alittle bit but still need to add to them. right now im leaning towards either 1 or 2 fx5s. just worried because i know people have had problems with them

Yes two xp3's and the sump on a 125. I'm sold on the Rena Filstar xp filters. They are a very good value, easy to set up, and easy to maintain. I don't have any experience with the inline heater but have read both good and bad things about it. One of the big things with me and the sump was to get the heaters out of the tank. My O was beating them up something fierce. The two ac 110's and one fx5 would be a good combo but I find the fx5 a little too pricey for my taste.

Very nice work! :fro:

I have been thinking about doing something like this for my 180 gallon. I have an xp3 and a xp4 but want more filtration.(who doesn't). I will check the links out and may get back with you. I have tried to cut plexiglass with little luck with out a band saw. What was your technique if I may ask?
Thanks

I usually cut plexiglass with a utility knife and a guide board. I've only cut up to 1/4" thick, though. Score it several times with the utility knife until you are about halfway through, then flip the plexiglass over, and use the guide board to break it along the scored line.

If you use at least 3/16" thick plexi (I used 1/4") you can cut it on a table saw which is what I did. Do not try to cut 1/8" plexi with a table saw as it will shatter very dangerous. I have never had any luck cutting it with a utility knife.

Thanks, never would have thought that would work. Fine tooth blade I presume, or something special?

I used an 80 tooth carbide blade to cut the plexi.
