lego decorations

Postby kyle313 on Wed Jul 21, 2010 1:54 pm

i think it would be a cool idea to make caves out of lego's or silicone domino's together for my eel to hide in. i do know lego's will float and some domino's will too so if anyone has any thoughts on how to keep them at the bottom of the tank let me know.

Glue them to a piece of slate with silicone.

Be careful in your choice of ceramic tiles as some contain trace amounts of lead and other minerals.
A good, flat, rock or piece of slate would probably be a bit more worry-free.If you're siliconing them together to make a cave you can always make a complete cave and just put a rock in it,or put a layer of silicone on the outside and cover in sand/rocks/gravel for a more natural look and be heavy enough to sink too.I do that with pvc for tunnels when I have bottom dwellers.

listen to the oinky advice on chems in tiles. industry dumps chems everywhere. Most phosphate fertilizer has cadmium polution. just because its a convenient place to get rid of it. dont be decieved by the term trace element either. it might not be dangerous just to your fish. The government might have deemed it a safe level to go into a glazed tile, but in ever so slightly acidic tank water this stuff might leach out. dont want to scare you too much bud, you sound like one spun monkey, would love to see that lego aquarium! but be careful

Might want to file down the corners a little bit too, I still play with my lego sometimes and its really owieeee! Don't want a fish catching a gash from swimming into it.

thanks for the info on the tile idea. i just figured it wouldnt be much different then putting a flower pot in your tank. ill make the corners rounded too. they are quite sharp. if that dosent work ill cover it with pond gravel. i would like to get away with not covering the legos because i think it would be cool to have the whole lego theme going on. we will see i guess.

Don't see a problem with using the Lego`s.
If I remember right Luke used them in his canister filter, or was that army men. :-\

I envision Lego decorations with plants growing on them. Of course you'd want to glue the legos together but imagine the possibilities.

This is pretty cool but O's are so clumsy I would be concerned with those sharp corners.
