powerhead filter

shampoo bottle packed with course and fine media. 315gph powerhead. cheep and effective filtration

cut the bottle at the top (you can see the line where the 2 peices overlap) so the media can be easily changed out or removed for rinsing.

I'd have been scared to do that with a shampoo bottle :o but it obviously works for you. Great concept.
Any day is a good day for watching the fish swim........

rinsed it for a half hour which was an extra 20 minutes after i saw no more bubbles and then soaked it in vinigar for like 5 hours. just to make sure :fro: .

What he said. Even with the rinsing. Just curious, but why not go with, oh, club soda, or seltzer, or something like that. Not only is it essentially water (and potable), but the bottles are clear and you can see when they need cleaning.

I love the concept, but I'd be very concerned about potentially toxic residues that may have been absorbed by the plastic, and that could potentially leach out into the tank.

Nice,won't fault the concept,and think the point is use what you have with caution :fro:
Any number of common containers can be used (shampoo,well...),as well as pump sizes,to meet about any need.
Just think about it.

yup use what you have. only bottle i had laying around for the time being. dont drink soda and recycleables went out 2 days before i set it up. ill keep a close eye on it though like usual. :fro:
