New fish, couldnt resist!

Postby Carmine on Mon Feb 08, 2010 10:46 am

Hey all,

Today i went to the biggest fish store here (2hours drive)
And guess what i found there:

3 Nice already bigger Silver Dollars!! Man they are gorgeous!!!!!
Also made a deal for them with my Convict cichlids. If they get to nasty i can take them out and bring them over there for a nice price (adult convict, store price)

You wanna see some pictures?? ::)

Here they are!

The SD's are 6" big already, the manager told me they have them in the store for a year now, but nobody is buying such an ugly fish in Belgium...... :silly:
So i bought them for a good price (12€ each at this size) and i can return the convicts when i catch them.

The first pics:

They are even bigger then my oscars for the moment. they even back up'ed in the beginning. But now they are swimming together.
ugly fish....... :-[

Well,

If you guys think its to much, yes im gonna trade them in. :fro:
If you tell me just wait and see, ill wait and see. 8)
If you guys tell me leave them, ill leave them.

Because i better listen to ppl who got more experience then me in these New world cichlids, i also did that in the beginning with my Malawi's and ive got the same fish for over 5years now, so the advice was good imo. :)

BTW: what should i feed these guys? Ive got American cichlid food for the O's and Cons but its all flooding food. Do they come up to get it? and do they have a chance with the O's?
Or better get them some other food?

well the sd,s will take it off the O's no probs , they like a wee bit more vegetable matter in their diet and will readilly eat what the O's eat and algae wafers , your O's may even eat the algae wafers as well
the sd's are low bio load so wont add much waste to the tank
as for your cons you could still have them in the tank no probs as far as bio load goes , however having a male and female con could lead to problems when they breed , you could trade 1 of the cons for another cichlid like a jd or a firemouth ?
so that would be
2xO,s
1x con
1x jd or firemouth

I could always try to get 1 out and put them with my Africans.

So i get:

2 Oscars
3 Silver dollars
1 Convict

That really enough for me in the tank! I really gonna enjoy the SD's with the O's. And hopefully they give the O's some attention so they dont end up fighting eachother (thats the thing why i bought them)

Gave the O's their last meal of the day and added some more for the SD's, but they dont take it and those pellets wont sink. (its the veggie pellets for my O's)

they will eventually learn to come up for floating pellets , my own sd,s take floating or sinking foods and are fast often beating the O's to the food lol
up to you but if you saw another 2 somwhere you could add them to give you 5 sd,s

Hehe,

Your gonna get me kicked out of the house, my Girlfriend is gonna .... me.
Im gonna leave it like this for ahwile now. I can still add more when i have a better view on the size my O's are gonna get. Still want my fish to have some room.

And yes, maybe then i could add 2 other looking SD at the end.
But for now, im gonna enjoy my lovely American tank and my fish in it. If the Cons go out, then normally i can add 2 more SD's.
I said it before, i love those little bandit Cons,.... Hope they give me the love back, i gave them.

Yes they do!

Im sittingin front of the tank with my tiny netbook, just to see them swim around. The O's seems a bit scared of them and ive seen 1 SD nip on the tailfin of Elvis! I hope they dont do that again.

Oh well they really do let my tank "shine" in my living room. Its more and more "Monsterfish tank" now.

Nobody in my friends circle have ever seen them. They tought it were Pirahna's!
