thank you fis people... indeed it grow too fast...

They naturally grow that fast when young so that's not an issue.
If I remember right, I thought they could live for 10+ years.

Try 20+...then there's always Butkiss. 41 years...Black Pacu, but lifespans run about same for both species.

Limiting feedings might save you money, but won't do squat for his lifespan...if anything you're holding him back.Perputual eating machines to the end.

OinKY, i had shown to my friend your input and here is his logical explanation:
"too much feedings makes fish grow fast especially to this kind of greedy specie... once it outgrown the tank, it will
be needing bigger tank and if not meet the requirement, will be prone to problem. once too big for the tank and expose
the top fin or body to the air, very susceptible to illnesses.... that is why it shorten the life span" partially right but
can be corrected with bigger tank in case may be....

all you have to do is move forward, aim, and respect the pathways
of others along the way.

Sounds suspiciously like "fish only grow to size of your tank" mentality on their part. Logically, even limiting feedings, you only slow growth so eventually you'll need the bigger tank anyway...maybe not this year, but next year. Goes against nature not to feed a fish that constantly eats, and feed it a variety.
Simply put...if you can't meet the needs of a fish, don't get the fish.Manipulating growth rates to keep a species is unethical "hobby-wise",not much different than how people have tried to keep Goldfish for years and justified it "fish only grow to the container they're kept in".
Just think about it.

I have a scar on my right hand where a pacu took a chunk out of it. Yes, they have top teeth, too.

so should not go there without any short huh!

Anybody going "au naturale" in their fish tank's got bigger issues than whether a Pacu's going to castrate them :silly:

that's an amazing growth rate paul.

those fish can be monsters. ... this pet store i used to go to had a large pool in the back full of feeder goldfish. and they had a "Black" Pacu in there. those are the biggest ones. this guy was like 2 feet long and massive. they told me it ate like 40 gold fish a day. lol
