which topics are you referring to? If a topic is locked its usually done for a good reason( usually to keep it clean and presentable) but if you wish to add to it you can simply PM an admin with what you wish to add and it will be looked at and added if its worthy of the topic :fro:

Generally a topic is locked for only a couple of reasons.

1. It's old and no longer pertinent.

2. It has either the potential or actually has resulted in members attacking one another or has a highly antagonistic attitude.

If a topic was locked for those reasons you would need to go through admin to add something to it because it's the moderators job to keep the site respectful, helpful, and PG13 for the members. It has nothing to do with being fair nor does it have anything to do with moderators determining if your post is any good. It has more to do with keeping threads that are disrespectul, demeaning, rude, etc. from littering the site and making everyone elses enjoyment of the site diminished.

Was it this one?

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=15640

If so, many of the articles are locked so that they are easy to read without a lot of extra posts to clutter them.
In that case you could certainly start a new thread related to that article or if you think something needs to be added or changed in the article then PM one of the mods about it or start a new thread about it. This ensures that any thread or question relating to that article remains current.

That topic I believe is listed under articles we usually lock the articles to keep them from getting loaded with all kinds of unnecessary comments. If you would like to add something to an existing article just send it to one of the mods and we will add it if it has merit.

No that one does not fit that description obviously. We lock articles so that there aren't a lot of comments like "nice article" cluttering it up. The article is there for folks to read and not have to wade through 10 pages of posts to determine if there was anything else there that might be useful.

In this way if you have something to say about the article you can start a new thread. If there is important, pertinent info gained from that thread we will update the article so that it always has the most up to date material in one easy to read post. If all you wanted to say was "nice article" then start a new thread for that and the author can say thank you and no one else 2 years from now will have to wade through that. It also keeps all comments timely and pertinent. If for instance that article was written 5 years ago and there are comments regarding it in all that time you might see a comment that you take exception to and want to post about it. The problem is that comment might be 3 years old and the person is no longer visiting the site. This kind of thing is confusing and not timely or pertinent so we tend to try to keep it to a minimum.

That was a lot of words to say......if you want to make a comment about the plants article, go ahead. Just start a new thread for it. Or make it in this thread. We'd all like to hear it. This has more to do with keeping the boards clean and organized and nothing to do with censoring someone's opinion. Hope that clears it up. :fro:
