What kind of Cichlid is this?

Hello everyone..
I bought this cichlid about 6months ago and he lives with Sugar my oscar.. He's his buddy. Does anyone know what kind of cichild this is?? I am lost on it

Thank you so much for pointing that out. lol ;D I got him a few months ago but the petstore did not have a sign on the tank of what he was.. So I got him to go with my lutino oscar Sugar. I just read up on him and they are compatable..Thanks again. ;)

Thanks everyone. How big does a Texas get? When he was a baby(tiny) he use to hide under the slate from the oscar. But now he's outgrown that and he swims near the oscar now and does not hide.lol ;D

Wow! I had no idea they get that big.. I would say he's about 5inches right now.. He's in my 55 gallon with my oscar right now. They have been together for about 6-7months now. I will have to upgrade there tank sometime soon. ;)

Yes you will definitely have to upgrade. Texas cichlids are very pretty looking cichlids. I wish that Ihad room for more.

Congrats on your new fish,I have young Green Texas too.I have been told they are slow growers,yours looks very nice. :fro:

Thanks :) He use to be thin when I got him but now he's put on some weight. lol ;) At least I know I have some time before I have to upgrade my tank. I will have to ask the husband again for another tank. lol :lmao:

Yep,Amy,a Texas for sure...but a closer pic would help tell whether it's Green Texas (carpintis) or Texas (cyannoguttatus).Too much mistaken identity with the web info available,and the difference in "personality" between the two is night and day.
Owned both,and the cyanno can be a handfull.

This texas seems peaceful and quiet.. I know it's probably b/c Sugar(my oscar) is much bigger then him and he know's who's boss. lol :laugh:

My money's on H. carpintis,spots are larger and more "scattered" on them.So Green Texas it is.
