Plugging a drilled tank?

Postby Rico88 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:55 am

I am on the verge of purchasing a 160 gallon bowfront tank. It was used for saltwater so it was drilled. How do i plug this tank up?

I assume it's drilled near the top ?

Easiest way would be to get a bulk head connector that would have been used for the overflow and then use a blank connector to seal it. This way if you decide to use it in the future it's easy to undo.

You could also just silicone a piece of glass over the hole and make sure you get a good seal.

Ever considered using it to feed a sump ?

Out of the three ideas Al presented I like the third one the best. Why note use the holes for a wet/dry filter?

you could also put a valve on straight out of the bulkhead and use it for water changes if it's in a suitable spot :fro:

I like to glue animals to rocks and put disturbing amounts of electricity and saltwater next to each other

I would either use a blank plug if are not interested in using a sump filter (could buy one at home store for couple bucks), but if it is low enough, I would use Tim's suggestion and use a ball valve for water changes.
