Thank you, yes the betta loves it in there. Lives off juvenile shrimp, I put food in and he just sits dead still next to it waiting for the shrimp to come out and eat it !!

Just an update, this tank is pretty stable now and not changing much, it's settled down from it's CO2 withdrawal and it's just a case of splitting and spreading the Staurogyne across the front to get the look I want there.

I am redoing my 10Gal planted tank and bought some "CaribSea Flora-Max" last night to try out, you know if its any good? It was a spur the moment "I'll try that" and I haven't opened it yet so it's free game to take it back lol

I'm not sure of that particular one, but I used the Eco-Complete Plant Substrate in my 10 gallon and within just over a week my plants are doing incredibly! I'm sure most good, commercially available plant substrates offer similar results. I used the full 20 lb bag for my 10 gal and it was perfect.

Yeah, looks very similar to that, hope to go home this evening and fool with it. Its going to be a pain getting all the baby shrimp I found yesterday out. Luckily I have a spare 10Gal that I am going to fill with the new substrate and just transfer plants and animals over to it and then throw my filter and heater back on. I got rid of the guppy yesterday, so we will see if my shrimp population can build a bit. If I can finish the setup this evening and be happy with it, I will probably buy a few more rcs tomorrow and toss them in to switch things up a bit.

Are there any fish that are guaranteed not to eat my baby shrimp? I really think the guppy was picking them off lol...

Huh, maybe thats where my baby RCS went, since I only found 1 today when I was cleaning the tank. I have 3 male guppies and I was honestly suspecting my cory's.

I never thought about it at first either and then suspected it, because you have seen your baby shrimp, and you know how small they are so they will definitely fit in the gups mouth. I luckily had pulled mine out already when I stumbled across the nest. I think Paul has neons in his tank and doesn't have any shrimp disappearing...but Idk.

Neons, zebra danios. Did have corys going but I have just noticed all but one seem to have died in the past weeks ??? Also kuhli loaches, they're suckers for live food and newly hatched shrimp are probably a good meal for them too. Shrimp breed faster than they're depleted, in any case. Perhaps my batch is just tougher than what you can get, or maybe my rain water is just ideal for them.

Unfortunately it doesn't rain enough here to be able to use just rain water with my changes. So Neons and Zebra Danios won't pick off my shrimp? "The Not-so-Smart Pet Store" has a sale going for them for 1$ maybe I should go pick 4 or 5 up for more nitrates for the tank...

Most fish will grab the shrimplets, the trick being that they produce a lot of them and enough manage to hide amongst the plants and achieve maturity. As for the soils, I use compost as a cheaper alternative to the aqua soils and have had good results with both.
