Agree Sharn.  At this point it can't hurt.

The good sign is that the fish seem fine and eating.

The gel tek says that it treats nematodes.  My current plan, such that it is, is to try the gel tek next weekend.  I still haven't given up completely on the jungle labs food, it seems to be slowly reducing the parasite load.  I just don't want to jump ships in the middle.  Since Sharn saw some success with the fenbendazole and I haven't found rave reviews for the treatment of callamanus with anything but the levamisole, I'll give the jungle labs one more round.  The main problem wi/ the Jungle stuff is getting the oscar to eat it!  The pleco, who seems to eat anything, eats the Jungle Labs stuff and isn't bloating up anymore.

A friend at school who keeps some fish thought I should try Clout or Fluke.  Anyone have thought about that?  Both say that they should not be used with catfish or bottem feeders.

awesome to hear you are seeing a bit of improvement!

sorry i cant help you with the clout/fluke idea, from what ive read i think clout is fairly harsh which would be why you wouldnt want it with plecs- but not treating you plec if he has it will reinfest the tank quickly

Clout and Fluke meds are very strong and recommended doing in QT.  Some fish have had issues with Clout as it is very fast working and a strong medicine.

The Jungle food can be soaked in garlic to help enhance the fish to eat it.

IMO I would try the Gel tek.  I do have an e-mail about it to my Vet friend asking about it but I believe he is on vacation this week and not sure he will be checking his e-mails.

I switched to the gel tek this morning.  I'm soaking food in it and the oscar is eating it quite readily!  At least I know it's getting inside him!  Haven't seen any signs of worms dying etc.  But I'm not giving up yet!

Anyone have experience with using pig dewormers containing levisole in an aquarium?  I think I've found a source online for this, but I'm a little wary of using a pig med in my fishtank.

Seems to be otc.

levamisole is widely used as a pig and poulty wormer- my one is a bird wormer.  that says levamisole phosphate- im not sure if thats what you want (im not a scientist so dont know the differeneces), levamisole hydrochloride is the one i used (and read about).

Thanks Sharn...man they don't make it easy!!  But the prices are cheaper then what we found before.  Now we just need to see where and who they ship to.  I don't know how regulated it will be.

I've ordered and now I'm waiting for shipping.  Hopefully, it will go through.  Meanwhile the gel tek doesn't seem to be doing much of anything to combat this.

Sure, you can make it a sticky if you think it will help someone else.  I'm sure I'll be back when the meds arrive!

No.  I'm not moving, but my dad just came back to live with my mom after spending a few months in a rehabilitation center.  He's completely blind now, so they need a lot of help.

Anyway, this evening I've seen some really nasty white stringy things coming out of the oscar.  It looks kind of like dead worms!!!  I'm hoping that the gel tek helped reduce the parasite load, at least somewhat.  I still see the spikey worms sticking out a little bit, but they are white instead of red now.  Maybe some dead worms?  The levamisole hasn't shipped (only one day, wouldn't expect it anytime soon) but I'm not about to cancel it!  I'd love to have some on hand in case these things make an encore appearance.
