sleeping oscar

Postby crxtasy18 » Wed Feb 13, 2008 5:08 am

ok well i wouldnt say this is an emergency
but my friend thinks so..
my oscar has always slept the same way.. he first gets in postion then slowly starts to lay down
until hes sitting sideway on the ground.
ive never put too much though to it because he always wakes up full of energy.. and doesnt seem to be "dieing"
but my friend seems to think that he needs to move to get oxygen.. i think that the current should be enough..?
i know he isnt like a pleco(able to pass water over his gills) but hes been sleeping this way since i got him..
he kinda looks like a giant dead leaf sitting on the ground

ill try to post a vid?
.. ill wait for replys first lol

Tell your friend no worries...Many fish sleep or rest like that. Our 2 O's when we had them use to sleep side by side and at an angle. As long as when they wake up, they swim around and are eating you have no worries. I can understand why your friend is concerned and glad you asked.

they don't need to move to get O2. Most fish sleep at an odd angle and most don't move at night. Sounds normal to me.
