Frontosa not eating

Postby Rico88 » Wed Mar 16, 2011 11:00 am

i have a 6 inch frontosa that as of late has stopped eating (usually out eats all my fronts). i noticed about a couple weeks ago a clear white patch on the side of the frontosa. it looked like a scale was falling off, so i left it alone. Now it s still there and its getting a little fuzzy. What should i do?

i tried getting a pic but its hiding in its cave. ill keep trying tho

ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 10ppm

Fronts being Tanganyikan, that is a bit low for them. What's the hardness?
Most African Rifts can handle a little down on the pH as long as the hardness is there.
Just think about it.

Hard to call without a pic.Any way to quarantine?
If not, maybe try a medicated food for bacterial gram+ infection. pH shouldn't allow for a fungal infection if temperature is high enough.
Just think about it.

Would be more prudent to know what exactly it is.Melafix is anti-bacterial,Pimafix is anti-fungal.
They are organic and not really considered meds...they just inhibit and weaken the causing agents where the fish's own immune system can get a grip on it.More of preventatives for when infection could happen (like injuries) to hold things down while the fish heals than meds to get it under control after infection's grabbed hold.

You can try them together (along with salt treatment) in conjunction as an initial broad spectrum approach.Shouldn't damage bio-filtration. It should only be stop gap measure until this is correctly identified though.
I can only say what I think from your desciption, which is a scale was knocked off against some decor probably minor damage to flesh which let bacteria from the decor in.Without pic,I'd say Columnaris.
Just think about it.

Best I can make out, just looks like flap of loose skin...really can't see "fuzz",but trust you it's there.
I'd suggest Triple-sulfa as a med,but Melafix may work if he's at least eating some. Not eating, the Melafix really wouldn't help.
Just think about it.

Shouldn't.Most meds are more effective in an alkaline pH,so should do the job.Just make sure to do the full course of treatment.
Just think about it.
