I'll start by explaining this dual product review. About 6 or 7 years ago I chumped up the money and bought my first Eheim filter (2028). I shortly fell in love with it. Its functionality, ease of use as well as overall performance. Before this filter I used a Fluval Canister of similar size, sorry I don't remember the model. Anyways from the minute you open the box, you realize you just bought a fine piece of German machinery, with great attention to detail and quality. Over the years I never had a problem with this filter, the only thing I had to replace on it was the main top gasket. This was due to the fact that I never lubed it ever in all the years that I ran it. Oops.
Now, earlier this year I decided that I wanted to upgrade to the Professional III series (2075) which had some slightly different features as well as a little bit more flow. I found the primer to work much better and easier on the Professional III series. The primer on the 2075 is much smaller and primed very smoothly, where as the primer on the 2028 was quite large and took a bit more force to press in order to purge the air from the system. This isn't much of a big deal as whenever you remove and clean the filters internals, the inlet and outlet lines don't loose their prime due to the shut-off and dis-connect valve. Other than that the internal trays and media is more or less the same. Other then the above mentioned, I also liked the much larger (4) locking clips on the Professional III vs the smaller 4 on the Professional II. Not that I ever had a problem with either one, I just like the Pro III Clips better due to the increased strength and they are even more ergonomic as well. I liked this filter so much that I bought a second one to run on my 125 gallon tank.
In summery, I will always consider an Eheim for any of my tanks. The thing I love about this company is that they use the same quality standards and attention to detail in all of the equipment that they manufacture. If you decide to try one I'm sure that you'll feel the same way.
Just an FYI on my older 2028, I still have it, I am just waiting for my new primer O-ring to come in, so that I can repair the filter which I plan to re-purpose at a later time.
Well that's my 2 cents, hopefully this helps someone out in their choice and feel free to ask me any further questions on either of these.
