Question: How come I can not login to the new site?
Answer: The new site utilizes only a username where the previous site had a username and a display or screen name. So, you used to be able to login with either name and now you can only login using your username. If you do not know what your username is, please send a request for your username using the e-mail address that your registered with.
Question: Where is the chat?
Answer: Upon the initial launch of the site we did not have the chat integrated with the new forum yet to allow it to pull your forum username into chat. That has since been completed and you will find a chat link in the top right side of the Nav Bar.
Question: The fonts are hard to read, why is that?
Answer: There are some combination of colors that are making it difficult to read. We apologize for this and we will work on making the colors more suitable for everyone in the near future. Our main focus was functionality and then aesthetics will come in time. If you are referring to the font size being too small there is an icon in the top right corner of the Nav Bar that is an A with up and down arrows. Keep clicking on that until you find a font size that fits your needs.
Question: How come pictures are missing?
Answer: There could be a couple reasons for this. One, which is the most difficult, is because during the complex conversion something was corrupted, whether it be the picture or the link to the picture. For these, we will do our best to fix them. If this is your post, we ask that you help us out, edit your post and repost your pictures. The other reason, which will be much more common is if you used the size constraints. e.g. if you entered something like [ img width=640 height=480 ]mypic.jpg[ /img ]. If you did this, simply edit your post by removing the width and height entries. e.g. [ img ]mypic.jpg [ /img ] (NOTE: extras spaces added so that these commands would show in this post). Another alternative to making this change, especially if you pictures are too large, is to wait for the MOD to be completed which uses the size restraints. Should be out soon.
Question: Why is the time so far off?
Answer: Well, technically, the time is not off an it is your personal time zone setting. To change it, click on "User Control Panel" (top left), the "Board Preferences" tab and change the Time Zone accordingly.
Question: Where is the spell check?
Answer: This forum does not come with a built-in spell checker. I am sure there will be a MOD at some point in the near future and we will test and implement it if it works well. In the mean time, if you are looking for a spell checker we recommend that you load a third party spell checker in your browser. For example, you can install the Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com) which will give you the ability the click on ABC Check and it will spell check your post for you. If you use FireFox, I have heard there is a spell checker that will check as you type.
Question: How come I can not edit posts made prior to the conversion (2/2/2008)?
Answer: Well, we have no clue, to be honest. We are investigating this and will either find a fix or give an explanation. In the mean time, please contact the appropriate moderator or administrator to make the change for you, if it is important. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Update: (2/3/2008 10:30pm ET) This issue has been fixed and you should be able to access all of your own posts.
Question: What is a bot and why are they logged into the site?
Answer: From time, to time you will see a [Bot] from Google, Yahoo, MSN and other sites throughout The Ospot. Think of a bot as a information vaccum. They boogy around the site sucking up information that has been posted on the site and indexing it back on their search engine. This is to make The Ospot available on all search engines and when people search and type in something like, "Sick Oscar" our articles are made available to them. This is another reason why we moved to this forum type is the integration with search engines and Bot's is great.
